Meandering throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada was a long time coming. I had never trekked this part of North America and neither had Cory Elder, my travel and artistic partner and best friend. We made our first journey together in the buildout of my truck, after having gone on five such escapades in the original buildout of his truck.

Much like our first trip together, Trip Kismet in the Spring of 2021, where we explored much of the Western United States, this trip was fast paced and we seldom stayed in one place longer than a day or so. The only goal; to see what we had not before and to discover where we might want to return, letting the adventure surprise us in direction it took. Cory is a landscape, en plein air, painter. We both, but especially he, needs to spend a good amount of time in one place to successfully complete work, but when encountered by new terrain and unknown scenery and wildlife we often scout out the area first and that was the total mission of this three week excursion.

We discovered some definite gems of the Northeast: Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge and Cobscook State Park in Maine are for sure repeaters. Cape Breton and Kejimkujik National Parks in Nova Scotia were favorites of the trip. Our schedules limited our flexibility, but we lucked out with the winter weather abating until it chased us back south in the waning days of the trip. Still, we estimated that we were about three weeks late for perfect leaf color and migrating bird patterns.

All said it was a lovely trip of discovery and we both cannot wait to get back and venture out even further to Newfoundland as we heard from multiple world travelers that it contains some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth.
